Multiple Security Vulnerabilities in Firefox and Thunderbird for Solaris 10 May Allow Execution of Arbitrary Code and Access to Unauthorized Data
1. Impact
Multiple security vulnerabilities in the Firefox and Thunderbird applications shipped with Solaris 10 may allow local and remote unprivileged users to inject arbitrary URLs into affected web pages, execute arbitrary code on a remote machine, gain access to unauthorized data or cause a Denial of Service (DoS).
The following Mozilla advisories describe the vulnerabilities:

2. Contributing Factors
These issues can occur in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
- Firefox 2.0 for Solaris 10 without patch 125539-02
- Thunderbird 2.0 for Solaris 10 without patch 125541-02
x86 Platform
- Firefox 2.0 for Solaris 10 without patch 125540-02
- Thunderbird 2.0 for Solaris 10 without patch 125542-02
Note: Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 do not ship Firefox and Thunderbird and therefore are not affected by these issues.
3. Symptoms
There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described issues have been exploited.
4. Workaround
A) To work around the issues described in MFSA-2007-20, disable JavaScript by doing the following:
- Open the "Preferences" dialog from the Edit menu
- Select the "Content" tab
- Uncheck the "Enable JavaScript" check box
B) The workaround for MFSA-2007-26 would depend on the "add-on" in question. The workaround for Web Developer Toolbar add-on is to use it in its default configuration. Other affected add-ons might not have a workaround other than to upgrade to a fixed version of Firefox.
C) To work around the issues described in MFSA-2007-27, force mail-related links to prompt in Firefox before launching external programs by doing the following:
- Enter 'about:config' in the location bar
- Enter 'warn-external' in the Filter: box
- Double-click to set the mailto, news, nntp and snews lines to 'true'.
Note:
CVE-2007-3089 = MFSA-2007-20
CVE-2007-3844 = MFSA-2007-26
CVE-2007-3845 = MFSA-2007-27
5. Resolution
These issues are addressed in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
- Firefox 2.0 for Solaris 10 with patch 125539-02 or later
- Thunderbird 2.0 for Solaris 10 with patch 125541-02 or later
x86 Platform
- Firefox 2.0 for Solaris 10 with patch 125540-02 or later
- Thunderbird 2.0 for Solaris 10 with patch 125542-02 or later
Note 1: The resolution for bug 6582544 is contained in revision -01 of the above patches (and as a result the above quoted -02 revisions contain the resolutions for both issues).
Note 2: Thunderbird patches 125541-01 (SPARC) and
125542-01 (x86) contain the resolution for bug
6582544. A fix for bug 6619093 for Thunderbird is available in
patches 125541-02 (SPARC) and 125542-02 (x86)
and is described for Thunderbird in Sun Alert 231441.
